The Virginia Conservation Association’s Field Trip to Prestwould Plantation!
Please join us for this highly anticipated Summer field trip to Prestwould Plantation.
Located on the Roanoke River near Clarksville, Virginia, Prestwould was built in 1794 for Sir peyton Skipwith and his wife Lady Jean. It stayed within the family for many generations and is the most complete gentry home in Virginia having retained much of its C18th and c19th furnishings, its original outbuildings and a two-family slave house, as well as extensive documentation and records. The day will begin with a behind-the-scenes tour of the house given by longtime director, Dr. Julian Hudson. After this, we will take a lunch break (bring your own) which we can enjoy whilst sitting on the ‘old stone wall’. The afternoon will focus on the outbuildings and gardens.
If you have carried out conservation or consultation work for Prestwould, please let me (Maeve Bristow) know ahead of time so I can make sure to include you in the program: email: firstname.lastname@example.org
