VCA April Field Trip - April 26, 2025
Join VCA for our Spring field trip to Four Mile Tree and Mt Pleasant on Saturday April 26. We hope to see you there! Please RSVP via the link at the bottom.
What:
VCA members and friends are invited to visit two James River plantation houses on Saturday, April 26. We will meet at 10:30AM at Four Mile Tee, an eighteenth-century house currently undergoing extensive conservation and restoration. In addition to a tour of the house and riverfront grounds, Chris Mills, historic architectural paint conservator, and Jenna Stillwell, assistant conservator, will discuss their long term project to conserve elaborate 1830s faux-wood graining discovered beneath multiple layers of overpaint. We will break for lunch at 12:30 (see the selection for boxed lunches on RSVP form), then make a short drive to tour the furnished house and grounds at Mt.Pleasant. The eighteenth-century house at Mt.Pleasant was fully restored and furnished with period antiques some years ago, with the work of several VCA members contributing to the effort.
We thank the owners of Four Mile Tree and Mt. Pleasant, Nick and Shelley Schorsch, for their generosity in opening these two properties for a visit by the VCA.
